Program Description:
The inter-disciplinary international Research project 'LEAP: Landscape Ecology and Primatology' is looking for enthusiastic students who want to come to the UK for an MRes degree on any of our ongoing projects in Indonesia (primate community, elephants, human wildlife conflict).
We urgently need somebody to study our habituated siamang groups in Sumatra or to study and conduct biomonitoring research based on audio-recordings of the forest.
Most work is done in the Sumatran rainforest in collaboration with local NGOs FKL and SOCP.
We expect that you would be able to travel to Indonesia for field work for at least 6 months - but exact details of the project will be developed with the student applicant to suit the student's own career aspirations and strengths.
Desk based habitat modelling/ GIS projects can also be considered.
An MRes is a good precursor to a PhD, allowing you to develop your research skills, enhance your ability to critically analyse information and solve complex problems.
There is no formally assessed taught component in an MRes, but you will be expected to engage with the Postgraduate Researcher Development Framework, which includes research methodology training. You'll develop your research project in conjunction with experienced LEAP academics.
