Position Description:
TAF has been working in Gabon since 1998, funding and managing a western lowland gorilla rehabilitation and reintroduction project in the Batéké Plateau National Park (Projet Protection des Gorilles (PPG-Gabon)) and has been working in close collaboration with the Gabonese Government to ensure the protection of the national park since its creation in 2002.

In Gabon, the main actions to achieve this objective are:
1. Law enforcement against illegal bushmeat trade;
2. Management of gorilla and other wildlife re-introduction programs in the BPNP;
3. Monitoring surveys of wildlife and human pressure in the BPNP. 

The holder of this job will be the Field Coordinator for PPG-Gabon. He/she will supervise PPG activities within BPNP, in collaboration with the Assistant Field Coordinator, the Gabonese National Park Agency and project staff. This will include supervision of PPG staff (Gabonese nationals and occasionally expats) at different field sites, to ensure proper monitoring of previously re-introduced gorillas, as well as any new re-introduction which will take place in the future. The Field Coordinator will report to the TAF Regional Director for Gabon and Congo. The successful candidate will be part of the conservation team and have the following responsibilities: work-planning; staff and camp management; financial and technical reporting; gorilla health monitoring; staff capacity building; logistics for anti-poaching patrols, equipment maintenance and communication with project partners and institutions.

Qualifications/Experience:
The successful candidate would preferably hold a Master degree in biology, wildlife conservation or related field, with at least 2 years of experience in Africa in a similar role. He/she must have previous experience in project management (staff supervision, work-planning and reporting, etc.). Wildlife re-introduction and anti-poaching experience, with an emphasis on conservation, would be highly recommended. The successful candidate should be able to work in a multicultural and multinational environment while living in isolated field camps (solar power, satellite internet and no running water). He/she needs to be physically fit enough for forest work in tropical climate.
The candidate must be fluent in French and English both spoken and written
Additional skills (highly recommended): mechanical aptitude, construction skills, boat/quad driver.

Salary/funding:
1350 Euros per month

Support provided for internship/volunteer positions (travel, meals, lodging):
- Housing in wooden cabin or safari tent
- 10.000,00 XAF per day (food rations)
- Health Insurance 
- Visa
- 6 weeks of vacation per year 
- One round-trip economy airfare to and from Franceville (from home country), to represent two single tickets, one for the beginning and one for the termination of the contract, 
- One round-trip economy airfare to and from Franceville (from home country) per twelve month period (annual leave).

Term of Appointment:
June 15th, 2019 3 month trial period which either party can terminate without notice. If the trial period is successful, then the contract will be prolonged to complete a period of two years.
