Great Gorilla Run

26 September 2009 (Sat)
12:00 -

This is not your average FUN RUN... it's the GREAT GORILLA RUN!

The most bizarre sight you may see this year is up to a thousand people all dressed as gorillas running around the streets of London to raise money for conservation projects in gorilla habitat in Africa.

TIME: From 10:00
LOCATION: London. Starts in Minster Court, over Tower Bridge, along the Thames and the Southbank and back to the beginning.

"This is the most fun event for conservation going on anywhere in the world" Bill Oddie, TV presenter and naturalist, 2008

Since the first Great Gorilla Run in 2003, thousands of people have donned their gorilla suits and ran, walked or jogged the 7km City of London route that takes in sights such as Tower Bridge and The Tate Modern.

If you like dressing up and helping save endangered creatures from extinction, this is the charity fun run for you. By doing the Great Gorilla Run, you'll be playing a crucial role in helping save the remaining 700 or so mountain gorillas left in the wild.

The run is to raise funds for The Gorilla Organization, a London-based charity that supports community projects in areas of precious gorilla habitat in Africa. Examples of some of the projects include fuel-efficient stoves, tree-planting initiatives, training farmers in organic techniques, wildlife clubs for children, cisterns for water collection, gorilla monitoring and encouraging more women into agriculture.
