I was shocked and sad to hear the news of Ymke Warren’s passing. I have worked with her inside Gashaka Gumti National Park, Nigeria under the platform of the Gashaka Primate Project which exists today partly because of her immense contribution in the habituation of two groups of olive baboons. She is very much missed by the entire members of our project, local and international ex- and current students, our field assistants and villagers who knew her in Nigeria.
i wish to express my deepest sympathy to her parents, Partner, the entire staff of WCS, and all sympathizers over the murder of Dr.Warren. Her sudden departure has created a vacuum that can never be filled as well as an unquantifiable setback to Conservation effort s on African primates and apes in particular. May her soul rest in perfect peace and may the Almighty God grant us the fortitude to bear the lost.
