The Born Free Foundation, the internationally renowned animal welfare and wildlife conservation organisation, is seeking to recruit a new Programmes Manager to manage global conservation projects, based at our Head Office in Horsham, West Sussex, England.

The successful candidate will be a post graduate, experienced individual with extensive knowledge of wildlife conservation on an international level. Already practiced in dealing with NGOs and academic institutions in animal conservation and welfare, the candidate should have experience managing projects in situ and have developed a good understanding of the issues associated with compassionate conservation.   The candidate will be familiar with proposing, initiating and managing field projects with partner organisations and will be able to undertake national and international travel to work with The Foundation’s partners. An important element of this position is to identify new funding opportunities for conservation projects, prepare funding applications and complete follow up reporting when necessary.

This is a key role in the success of Born Free conservation programme and the successful candidate will be required to assist in formulating policy in a wide variety of The Foundation’s work.

Those selected for interview will already have:

  • A post-graduate (MSc or PhD) degree in conservation and/or biological sciences·      
  • At least 5 years’ experience in wildlife conservation·        
  • Experience working for a wildlife conservation organisation, preferably managing projects·
  • Have excellent communication skills including strong public speaking and be able to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, with a wide range of stakeholders·  
  • Be able to work under pressure to tight deadlines·        
  • Be available to travel to meetings and field visits at short notice·        
  • Have a track record in technical writing (e.g., reports and peer-reviewed publications but also popular articles)·        
  • The ability to work as part of a team, and be available to communicate over multiple time zones·        
  • The ability to be highly organised, self-motivated and have attention to detail

Spoken and written French would be an advantage.
