Ape Alliance and our Bristol University Volunteers Present...

An evening of music and film - both are powerful tools in winning the hearts and minds of the general public. The Fantasy Orchestra will bring their unique take on music for conservation as an introduction to one of the most successful films for conservation.

Gorillas in the Mist is the drama based on the extraordinary life of Dr Dian Fossey and her efforts to protect the last remaining mountain gorillas from extinction. Her murder at Christmas 1985 served to redouble the local effort to conserve these magnificent animals and this year it is anticipated that the new census results will show another slight increase in their population thanks to the dedicated efforts of people of all nationalities many of them inspired by Dian Fossey

The Fantasy Orchestra is a community project led by Jesse D Vernon, based in Bristol and also in Paris. The Orchestra (motto: ‘more is more’) brings together 40+ musicians, professional and amateur, to create a kaleidoscopic symphonic brigade.

Their eclectic repertoire covers film soundtracks (Morricone, Barry, RD Burman), rock and pop favourites (Hendrix,  Zeppelin, Beatles, Bowie), and some more obscure treasures. Think psychedelic loveliness, rousing choral noise, and some choice costumes.
