They are our closest living relatives but what is it like to work alongside, protect and film the great apes? What can they tell us about our own past? What is it like to be charged by a gorilla? How do you film new behaviour in the wild? Can they be saved from extinction?
In collaboration with Ape Alliance, the University of Bristol Roots and Shoots Society is presenting 'Working with Primates', a fascinating and lively evening of talks from a range of experts and guests.
Speakers:
Professor Alice Roberts is a physical anthropologist and broadcaster and reveals just how close we really are to our great ape cousins.
Ian Redmond OBE is a renowned great ape conservationist and uncovers how important these 'gardeners of the forest' are to the environment.
Ben Garrod is a primatologist and broadcaster and shall reveal what it was like to habituate wild chimpanzees for Dr Jane Goodall.
Jo Shinner is an award-winning Executive Producer at the BBC Natural History Unit and has filmed with a wide range of primate species.
Prof David Cahill, an expert in human reproductive medicine, recalls the fascinating story of how he delivered a baby gorilla by caesarean.
The evening will involve several short talks, a question and answer session, as well as several short films on the project UBRAS supports: the Liberian Chimp Project. All proceeds on the night shall go to supporting this cause.
"What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” Jane Goodall
