Ape Alliance Chairman Leads the Great Gorilla Project Tour

Ape Alliance Chairman, Ian Redmond OBE will lead group of 7 lucky travellers to see gorillas in Uganda this June - for more information and to book your place on the trip see the links below

Join The Great Gorilla project tour for an award winning two week experience in Uganda, Africa.

We are calling on all wildlife travellers to be part of this experience and help us bridge the gap between local people and gorilla who share the same vulnerable rainforest habitats.

You will have the opportunity to visit the gorillas not only once but twice on this experience, with the addition of being able to learn about them from the world famous gorilla specialist Ian Redmond who worked closely with Dian Fossey (Gorillas in the Mist).

This gorilla tour also includes a 4 day excursion to Queen Elizabeth national park, where you will track wild chimpanzees, join an unforgettable boat trip on the kazinga channel where you will see hundreds of hippo and buffalo, and go on game drives searching for elephants, lions and other African wildlife.

Here’s your chance to give back to gorilla conservation and the local community by spending time at the project sites of our charity partners. Your tour price includes a donation to projects including the Pedal powered cinema dedicated to educating local communities about gorilla conservation.

Heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of Prof Wangari Maathai

The Ape Alliance secretariat extends heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of Prof Wangari Maathai, Nobel Peace Laureate and environmental visionary, who lost her battle with cancer yesterday in Nairobi, Kenya. Among her many leadership roles, she was a roving Ambassador for the Congo Basin.   She understood that the tree-planting for which she was famous is necessary to rebuild eco-systems, but that it is better not to destroy natural forests in the first place; moreover she agreed with us that protecting animals such as primates and elephants – seed dispersal agents who are the natural ‘gardeners of the forest’ – was a necessary part of managing forests sustainably.   Wangari Maathai will be greatly missed, but her legacy – The Green Belt Movement - lives on and her example will continue to inspire for generations to come.

Ian Redmond, Chairman, Ape Alliance.
